Firmware update Your console server will not allow you to upgrade to the same or an earlier version of firmware, so before upgrading you should ascertain if you are already running the most current firmware:
Alternatively you can upgrade your console server firmware from the command line as detailed below: Option 1 If your console server has reliable Internet access, this method takes less setup. However be aware that if the process does not complete properly you can be left with an unusable console server. In the example below is the firmware image for a CM4116 and CM4148. Browse to ftp.opengear.com and locate the appropriate image and current version for your console server, then at the command line of the console server issue this command: # netflash -f ftp.opengear.com cm41xx-2.5.0u1.flash You will be prompted to login. Just use "anonymous" for the username and hit enter when prompted for a password. Option 2 You can download the files locally to a TFTP server or FTP server. This will remove the risk of losing internet connectivity in the middle of the upgrade. The netflash command for the local FTP is the same as the above command with "ftp.opengear.com" replaced with your local server address. For example for a CM4116 you would download the file ftp://ftp.opengear.com/cm41xx-2.5.0u1.flash; and put it in your FTP or TFTP servers path. The TFTP netflash command is then the same as above minus the "-f" option: # netflash W.X.Y.Z cm41xx-2.5.0u1.flash (where W.X.Y.Z is the address of your local TFTP server) After the command has finished the unit will reboot and your new firmware version will be 2.5.0u1 Note: You can also run # netflash with a selection of switch options which will cause hardware checks or version information to be ignored, or leave processes running during the flash that are normally killed, or force it onto protected flash regions. However these are rarely needed and should only be used under guidance from Opengear support. |
