"User" access to the Management Console
The Administrator is the only user who can use the Management Console to fully control the console server (configuring port protocols and services etc). The Administrator also can use the Management Console to set up users. These users can have User or Administrators privileges. The User is given authority to perform specified controls on specified connected devices. These Users can then directly access these select serial or network connected devices; and control these devices using the specified services (e.g. Telnet, HTTPS, RDP). They can do this directly using the SDTConnector client or other comms tools.
However, with firmware post V2.2.0, the Management Console can be used by both Administrators and Users. So while a User has no management control over the console server itself they can use the Management Console for control of devices connected to the gateway and:
- access and control configured devices
- view serial port logs
- use the in-built java terminal to access serially attached consoles
- control Power
A User logs in to the Management Console using the Username:Password set up by the Administrator, and they are presented with the Manage:Devices menu. This will display all the Serial devices, Network Hosts and Power devices they can access; so the Administrator user is presented with a display of all the configured devices. The User or Administrator can then take a range of actions on each of these Serial/Network/Power devices by selecting the Action icon or the related Manage menu item.
