Logging and auditing options
Opengear's console server solutions provide a selection of audit logging and tracking helps the organization conform to mandatory compliance requirements like Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA and HIPAA.
- Each IMG/IM/CM/SD4000 console server can maintain a record of all direct access and all communications with the serially managed devices they are controlling
- The IM/IMG4000 lines also can log access and communications with network attached devices
- Port logs can be maintained locally or on a remote server (or on the USB flash with IM/IMG4000)
- When configuring Serial ports, and the Network ports that will be used to connect to hosts, you can activate and set the desired level of logging for each port
- When the console server has attached Managed UPS hardware, the status of each UPS is logged
- A log of all system activity (syslog) is also maintained
For more specific info on logging refer faq271 (Serial), faq270 (Network Hosts) and faq299 (UPS).
Monitoring and alert options
The Alerts facility monitors the status of the console server and connected devices and when an alert event is triggered, an Alert message is then emailed to a nominated email address, or the SNMP or Nagios server is notified. The data stream from nominated serial ports can be monitored for matched patterns or flow control status changes can be configured to trigger alerts. As can user connections to serial ports and Hosts, or power events.
For more specific info on alerts refer:
- faq300 Setting alerts for UPS power status
- faq241 What alerts can be set for serial port/console activity?
- faq269 What alerts can be set for Network Host activity?
