SDT Connector - Nagios support Nagios provides central monitoring of the hosts and services, and when integrated with SDT Connector provides point and click access and control of all the hosts from you central Nagios console. Opengear console servers all embed the Nagios NSCA client (refer faq 282) which enables scheduled check-ins with the remote Nagios server. Nagios uses this facility to monitor then access and control the console servers and hosts across the network. There are a number of basic checks automatically activated when Nagios has been enabled on remote console servers. For each host the administrator can also configure whatever additional custom/generic checks they want. The Nagios central server monitors all these checks, and for each connected host presents a Connect via SDT status option.
Connect via SDT presents the Nagios user with direct connection options for securely accessing then controlling any of the hosts that are connected to console servers in the network. By selecting Connect via SDT the Nagios user automatically loads SDT Connector which makes an SSH connection through the console server to the host and loads the application to communicate with the host. As shown below a new window is opened on the Nagios display and the SDT Connector application is loaded, which after making the SSH tunneled Telnet connection thru to target host loads the default Windows Terminal application is loaded on the Nagios display computer (in this case a Windows PC).
Similarly if the console server had been set up with RDP service enabled to a host, an RDP session to the host through the SSH tunnel is activated. Or if the connected host was a Dell server with a DRAC card (service processor) then Connect via SDT would automatically load the OpenManage browser client. The Connect via SDT links in the central Nagios server will work on clients with SDT Connector 1.5.0 that have the sdt:// protocol registered. Plugins that run on the IMG/IM/CM4000 units output sdt:// links in their status and these invoke SDT Connector when clicked on the Nagios UI
When you start up SDT Connector it asks to register itself to handle the sdt:// protocol - click Yes. Otherwise, you can do so at any time through Edit -> Preferences -> System Defaults. |
