Local console/modem port connection

With the exception of the ACM5000, all Opengear console servers provide a standard DB9M connector for the LOCAL console/modem port. Most models have a dedicated console/modem port. The SD4001, SD4002 and KCS6004 have a serial port which can be configured as the console/modem port, hwoever this configurable console/modem port also is a DB9M.
  • Now most generic computers have a DB9M DTE console connector so they can be attached to the console server's console/modem port using two #319001 adaptors with standard UTP Cat 5 cable

  • To connect the console/modem port to an external modem (for out of band access) use #319004 adaptors with standard UTP Cat 5 cable.
The ACM5000 family also has a configurable console/modem port however it is provided using a Cisco pinout RJ45 connector. So the generic computer attaches to the console server's console/modem port using a standard UTP Cat 5 cable terminated in a #319015 adapter, and you connect to an external modem using a #319014.
