Next Generation Management

SDT Connector client software provides point-and-click secure remote control of the systems and devices inside your network. It couples the trusted open source SSH tunneling protocol with popular access tools including:
  • Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol
  • Open source VNC (UltraVNC, TightVNC, Real VNC ...)
  • HTTP/HTTPS browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox ...)
  • Telnet and SSH for command line access
  • IPMI and service processor management software (ILO, RSA)
The result is that end users and administrators can securely access and take control of all the computers, networks and appliances in their local and remote sites.

SDT Connector delivers secure remote access and control

SDT Connector is easy to operate. With the simple click of a button a Remote Desktop connection can be set up with a selected remote host PC. The user instantly views the desktop from the remote PC and has the same user privileges and access rights as they were at the desk. Another click of a button and, in a fresh screen the user is in command of the PC's service processor (running a local application such as IBM Director to control the RSA card). Or if the user clicks on a remote firewall host and selects HTTPS the user is presented with the command console for this network device.

Simple but sophisticated. SDT Connector also provides automatic out-of-band access to the gateway. Should a remote Opengear console server not be contactable at its primary address SDT Connector runs a nominated script or command to establish an out-of-band connection. It may dial-out or bring up a VPN connection or simply add an alternate route, and will then use this out of band path for accessing the remote devices attached to your SSH gateway.

SDT Connector is simple to configure. Once a new gateway has been configured with login credentials, SDT Connector can automatically retrieve the configuration all connected hosts. And for each host the manager can manually configure SDT Connector with the selection of access tools that will be available to be run when each particular user is accessing that host. This sets the corresponding protocol that will be port forwarded by the remote console server connected to that remote host e.g.
  • to manage a remote Cisco 870 firewall (host) SDT Connector could be configured to load a browser locally to give the administrator HTTP/HTTPS tools for IOS access, and it may also be configured to load Telnet for remote command line access
  • to operationally access a Vista/Windows XP desktop or 2003 server at that same remote site then RDP could be selected (or VNC for earlier Windows versions)
  • to remotely administer the Linux server at that site SSH/Telnet, VNC and HTTP/HTTPS access might all be configured
The SDT Connector java client software has also been seamlessly integrated with Nagios central management software.

SDT Connector adds access and control to Nagios monitoring

Nagios provides centralized monitoring of all the computers, software and network services in complex and geographically dispersed data centers, and raises alerts when there are problems. Opengear's SDT for Nagios extends this to provide administrators with secure access and control so they can respond to the problems. So SDT Connector delivers administrators a single interface for securely administering their local and remote sites.
