The Opengear connectors and adapters tabulated below work with standard UTP Cat 5 cable. You'll find more cable adapter information here as to which adapter is needed to connect to various types of equipment. Also the numbers marked with an * below are the part numbers of the Avocent/Equinox functional equivalents.

Local/Console port connection
To connect to the LOCAL console ports on IM/IMG/CM/SD4000 using a computer or terminal device use the 319001 or 319003 adaptors with standard UTP Cat 5 cable. To connect the LOCAL console ports to modems (for Out of Band access) use the 319004 adaptor with standard UTP Cat 5 cable. Each IM/IMG/CM/SD4000 gateway is supplied with UTP Cat 5 cables.
Standard RJ45 pinout
RS232 pinout standards exist for both DB9 and DB25 connectors; however there's no pinout standard for RS232 using RJ45 connectors so custom adaptors and cables are often required to interconnect with the serially managed servers, router, switches or PDUs. Suppliers of console servers have also adopted a variety of pinout configurations as can be seen from Zonker's Serial Signals Page on the conserver site.
Opengear's console server products have the same RJ45 pinout as the Avocent /Equinox brand console server. So if you need to connect to a particular serial device and an Opengear adapter is not available off-the-shelf, you should be able to use an adaptor made to work with one of these competitor's products.

Some Opengear console server models are also available with Cisco or Cyclades RJ pinouts as detailed in Alternate RJ45 Pinouts
The RS-232 standard
RS232 pinout standards exist for both DB9 and DB25 connectors:
