How to reset the console server back to its factory default
A hard reset will reset the console server/router back to the factory default settings. The IP address will reset to 192.168.0.1. All custom settings (users, hosts, alerts) will be erased and any custom scripts will be deleted.
Erase Button
To perform a hard reset, use a ball-point pen to depress the recessed Erase button:
- Depress the button TWICE within a 2 second period
- Depress the button while the unit is powered ON
- Depress the button gently
- Do not use a graphite pencil
Command Line
You can also reset to factory defaults from the command line by typing the command flatfsd -i
- Rack-mount console server (CM4000, IM4200, IMG4200) and ACM5000 router/console server models have an Online LED that flashes a heartbeat a couple of times a second during normal operations. When these units are hard reset, this heartbeat stops i.e. the LED stops glowing. The heartbeat recommences after a few seconds - indicating the unit has successfully reset and is up and running in its factory default state.
- The desktop SD/CM4008, SD/CM4002 and IM4004-5 models have the front panel port LEDs will flash in a cyclic pattern during normal operations when the serial ports are all idle. Alternately if there's serial port activity on any port on the units then the front panel LEDs will display that serial port activity. The instant these units are hard reset this flash pattern stops i.e. the LEDs cease to glow. After a few seconds the LEDs recommence cycling indicating the unit has successfully reset and is back in its factory default state.
- The SD4001 does not have a hard rest button, however models with firmware from 3.3.0 onwards can be hard reste by:
- Short pin 2 (RXD) to pin 7(RTS) (vertically adjacent) on DB-9 serial port three times in 5 seconds
- This causes three breaks in that “erase time window” and is registered as an alternate erase button press
- The SD4001 will erase all config and reboot
-
The KCS6000 and CMS6000 models do not have a hard rest button (all other console servers do).
You can also soft reset the console server so it reboots but retains all its settings from the Management Console or the command line, and all your configuration files (refer faq 252).
