How to hard reset the console server back to its factory default
A hard reset will reset the console server back to the factory default setting with the IP address reset to 192.168.0.1 and all custom settings will be erased. To perform a hard reset:
- Use a ball-point pen to depress the Erase switch on the rear panel
- Depress the switch TWICE within a 5 second period
- Depress the switch while the unit is powered ON
- Depress the switch gently
- Do not use a graphite pencil
During normal operations with SD/CM400x and IMG4004-5 units, the front panel port LEDs will flash in a cyclic pattern when the serial ports are all idle. The instant the SD/CM/IMG400x is hard reset this pattern will stop and the LEDs will cease to glow for a few seconds. The LEDs will then commence cycling again as soon as the unit has reset and is back at in its factory default state. If there was some ongoing serial port activity on any port on the SD/CM/IMG400x then the front panel LEDs will display that serial port activity. However when hard reset this LED display will cease for a few seconds, then after the unit has reset the LEDs will flash in the cyclic pattern.
During normal operations with rack mount console servers there is an Online LED on the back of the unit that flashes a heartbeat a couple of times a second. When the console server is hard reset this heartbeat stops for a few seconds (the Online LED stops glowing). It will restart the heartbeat when the unit has reset and is back in its factory default state.
You can also soft reset the console server so it reboots but retains all its settings from the Management Console or the command line (refer faq 252).
