Who can configure the console server?
Each Opengear console server hosts a web server with a web based Management Console. Any the root Administrator and other user with Administrator privileges can access and control the gateway using the Management Console. They can configure all services and ports to control the serial and network connected devices, sets up users and specify their access and control authority, set logging and alert conditions.
The Management Console supports current versions of popular browsers (Internet Explorer 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 2.0, Netscape 7.0 and more). By default only the secure HTTPS access to the Management Console is enabled and it is recommended that only HTTPS access remain enabled if the server is to be administered over the Internet. (Note: In firmware releases prior to V2.2.0 both HTTP and HTTPS were enabled by default)
Opengear console servers have an embedded Linux operating system so experienced Linux and UNIX administrators may prefer to disable the browser interface and configure at the command line (refer faq 233). You can restrict browser based configuration by selecting Network: Services and select the appropriate services to be allowed.
