Firmware update Before upgrading you should ascertain if you are already running the most current firmware in your console server. Your console server will not allow you to upgrade to the same or an earlier version. On the Management Console select Status: Support Report and note the Firmware Version
Software upgrades for all Opengear console servers are available at no charge. The latest firmware image can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.opengear.com:
To upload this firmware image to your IM/CM/SD4000, simply go to the System: Firmware menu and specify the file address and name for the saved file. Then click Apply.
Alternatively you can upgrade your console server firmware from the command line as detailed below: Option 1 If your console server has reliable Internet access, this method takes less setup. However be aware that if the process does not complete properly you can be left with an unusable console server: # netflash -Hikf ftp.opengear.com cm41xx-2.1.0u1.flash You will be prompted to login. Just use "ftp" for the username and hit enter when prompted for a password. Option 2 You can download the files locally to a TFTP server or FTP server. This will remove the risk of losing internet connectivity in the middle of the upgrade. The netflash command for the local FTP is the same as the above command with "ftp.opengear.com" replaced with your local server address. For example for a CM4116 you would download the files ftp://ftp.opengear.com/cm41xx-v2.0.6.boot and ftp://ftp.opengear.com/cm41xx-2.1.0u1.flash; and put them in your FTP or TFTP servers path. The TFTP netflash command is then the same as above minus the "-f" option: # netflash -Hik W.X.Y.Z cm41xx-2.1.0u1.flash (where W.X.Y.Z is the address of your local TFTP server) After the two commands have finished the unit will reboot and your new firmware version will be 2.1.0u1. Note: You can also use # netflash -npulkb -r /dev/flash/boot W.X.Y.Z cm41xx-v2.0.6.boot from the command line to update the boot loader in your firmware, however this will rarely be necessary and you will need to contact Opengear support for the latest bootloader file. |
