How to set up Call Home on your console server The Call Home facility enables a remote console server to be monitored by a central CMS6100 or VCMS server (CMS) - and accessed by the CMS even though the console server may be located on a private network without inbound ports. To intitiate the Call Home and set the console server up as a management candidate on the CMS :
These above steps create the intial SSH connection to the CMS. The public SSH key from the console server is sent to the CMS (using the Call Home password) and placed on its list of authorized keys. This SSH connection is used to register the console server on the CMS as a Managed Console Server candidate. An SSH listening port is also created on the CMS . Once the candidate has been accepted on the CMS (refer faq374) fresh SSH keys are generated by the CMS. The public key is sent to the Managed Console Server (across the Call Home SSH connection), and a port-forward is established between the listening port and this SSH tunnel. The console server's configuration is then uploaded to the CMS and converted into Nagios monitoring configuration. The Managed Console Server is now monitored by the CMS, and remote administrators can connect to the Managed Console Server from - and through - the CMS. Any console server with Firmware V3.2 or later, has Call Home support and can be configured to initiate Call Home to a designated CMS on power up. |
